With cultural education first, and an emphasis on high school completion and college enrollment second, students will be encouraged from every angle possible to complete high school and enter a program of post secondary education. The heart of a people dwells within its culture. Cherokee heritage must be passed from those who know to those who don't in order for this heart to survive. The concept of the Elder Council woven with the goals of the Educational Talent Search Project provides a unique influence on our population of 60 middle and high school students. These students will receive the best that we have to offer in terms of career and college guidance all underpinned by the wisdom of the Elder Council. For the past 24 years Educational Talent Search has been adaptive to the needs of the mountain communities and target schools in Western North Carolina. Talent Search, for the western North Carolina community, is an early intervention system that works.
