Mile Post 151 to Roanoke Mountain

Crossing Adney's Gap
Today was a short day because we wanted to take the time to stop by and visit with a friend. It was one year ago that two weary bikers rolled off the parkway looking for a place to camp. Mrs Cassie took them in.
Mrs.
Cassie's Home
Mrs Cassie was born and raised on a farm that the Park Service later purchased and built the Blue Ridge Parkway across. Mrs Cassie told us stories of living on Adney's Gap back in the 1920's, and 1930's. She told us about Neptune the horse; how it would open the gate with it's nose and close it again behind. Neptune also kicked her ear off one cold winter day. Mrs Cassie was only a child of six years old so her father and a neighbor had to hold her down on the kitchen table while the doctor stitched her ear back on! It was great to visit with her.
Powered by a slice of Cassie's homemade brown sugar pie and ice cream. Cassie Dickson left for home today. She has been great. We will miss her. We went on to Roanoke Mountain Campground where we met with our third sherpa team of Patricia and Misty. They will be with us for the next 2 days.
