Day Three:
Tuesday, June 29, 2004
Fort Peck Dam to Flowing Wells Rest Area (59 miles). The
group woke up at 5:00 am and were on the road by 8:00 am. The
road took the group through beautiful country - badlands and high
prarie broken up by shallow canyons. There is little to no
water out here, The road is also probably one of the least
travelled roads in the country. As cars passed, Todd counted -
and the end count for the day was a whopping 11. The locals in
Nashua had told us not to go to Nelson Creek, but to stay at the rest
stop at Flowing Wells (an ironic name for this part of the country),
but when Leigh got to the rest area, she saw a big sign that said "No
Camping". A quick call to the Montana Dept. of Transportation
solved that problem. The group cut an hour off their ride time
from the previous day - they are really getting the hang of it.

Leaving Fort Peck Lake in the distance we headed for Flowing Wells which is sorta odd because we didn't see much in the way of water. |
