Grass Range to Lewistown (34 miles)
We met a real cowboy.  He had been working the sheep with his two dogs all day.  He was limping when he came in tonight.  ìHorse fell on it,î he said.  ìI was on that pony there.  Aint got but about 10 rides on ëem.  I wanted em to go this way an e didnít wanna go.  He tripped on some sage brush goin sideways.î  Montanans are direct and to the point.  They are among the friendliest people ever.  They donít waste words and their sense of humor is as dry as the plains weíve been riding.  He offered me a beer.  ìIím on duty,î I said.  ìIíd offer you boys one but Iíd get in trouble,î he said to Jason and Josh.

On Miahís last night she sang the star spangled banner as we sat in our meeting circle tonight.  The sun was setting behind a big thunder storm 100 miles west of us.  The song, the wind, the sunset and the lightening all worked together to bring an unusual hushed silence to our group.  It was a moment.

The same storm soon drove us all into our tents pitched behind the Sand Springs Store and Post Office.
