Day Nine:
Monday, July 5, 2004
Today's ride was from Lewistown to Geraldine: 74 miles. It
took the whole group almost 9 hrs. This stretch was by far the
most beautiful through the Square Butte Canyon. For days we
have seen the mountains in the distance and today we were climbing
them. The morning started off cold and rainy but by lunch in
Denton there were blue skies. I think we all agree that it was
the coldest July 5th we've ever experienced. We were wearing
hats, gloves, long pants, and triple layers of shirts. Leigh
had hot chocolate waiting for us at lunch and we were all VERY
HAPPY! We stopped in the town of Square Butte and checked out
some of their historical sites. There was an old courthouse and
jail that was never used. "It was like stepping back in time,"
said Tyler. Tomorrow is our final day of riding to Ft.
Benton.
