Day
Three:
Missoula to Lolo Hot Springs: 40 miles (about 6 hrs)
I am continually impressed by the quality of students that we have participating in this trip. They are supportive, helpful to each other and strong--and a hoot to be around. After feeding the Griz at the University of Montana yesterday, Drew bought a bicycle horn (as big as his handlebars) and he continues to amuse us with his dry sense of humor.
While ascending Lolo Creek, a deer jumped out of the brush and hopped along side of us until it realized we were all traveling in the same direction. It darted to the right, and Drew blew the horn. More cars passed us on this single day than in the 2 previous years combined. We had to take a lot of breaks today because of technical difficulties--3 flat tires and a stripped pedal crank.
Spirits are really high and we are looking forward to going over Lolo Pass tomorrow, via dirt road all the way to Powell, Idaho.
