Student Health Services

Allergy Clinic - Allergy injections are administered at the student health center. To participate in this service, students should bring their allergy serum and physician's orders for the administration of the allergy injections to the allergy clinic. The allergy clinic operates Tuesdays from 8:00 - 5:00 and Fridays from 8:00 - 4:30. We also give immunizations at the health center on Wednesday's and Thursday's from 8:00- 5:00. Birth Control - Education and counseling about various contraceptive methods is available. Some prescription birth control may be obtained from student health center for a fee or a written prescription may be may be given to take to outside pharmacy. In order to provide prescription birth control the student health center must have a copy of your most recent Pap smear results. Appointments must be made for birth control initiation and/or continuation.

Nutrition Education - Contact the dietitian at 227-2088 or kawhite@wcu.edu to set-up a consultation or schedule a program for nutrition related issues. For more information, click here.

STI Screening - Screening for some STI's and treatment are provided. The student health center does not screen or treat for HIV.

Laboratory Tests - Some laboratory testing are conducted during clinic operation hours.

Physicals - Comprehensive physical examinations for employment, internships,participation in athletics, etc. are provided. It is recommended that student receive a physical before making a major change to their exercise routine.

Ambulance Service - WCU -EMS is a student staffed emergency ambulance service servicing the WCU community. Medics are certified EMT's. WCU EMS is superivised by the health center and Harris Regional hospital's EMS service.This service is in operation 24/7, when classes are in session and is dispatched by dialing 911 on- campus, and off- campus or on your cell at (828) 227-7301.

Surgical Procedures - Minor procedures (i.e. treatment of warts and suturing of lacerations) are available. Bandages, slings, and splints are provided and crutches may be loaned, for a fee, if necessary.

Immunizations - Required immunizations and TB skin testing are free. Hepatitis B, Gardasil, and flu vaccines, are provided for a nominal fee.
