Student Health Insurance

• WESTERN CAROLINA University is a member institution of the WCU Student Health Insurance Plan underwritten by the National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburg, PA, with its principal place of business in New York, NY (“the Company”), a member of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and serviced by Pearce & Pearce, Inc. Student Health Specialist since 1948… for insurance information contact www.studentinsurance.com
• WCU requires all full-time enrolling students (Grad 9 hours or more, Undergrad 12 hours or more) and all international students to have health insurance. If you already have health insurance coverage, you will need to waive out of the university supported plan.
• If at any time you drop below full time status, below 12 hours for undergraduate, and below 9 hours for graduate, (from fall to spring), you will have to voluntarily enroll in the insurance plan during the open enrollment period.

Open Enrollment for fall 2008 begins Monday April 7th, 2008!!!!

Important information regarding your student health plan for fall 2008:

 If you have other valid health insurance coverage, then you will need to provide an online waiver by logging on to www.studentinsurance.com and following these steps:

1. Type WCU in the search bar on the Pearce & Pearce website
2. Western Carolina University/ Pearce & Pearce page will appear
3. Click the first option “Waive online”
4. Enter all demographic information
1. Student (name, DOB, address, class standing, etc...)
5. Enter current/valid health insurance information
1. Policy holder
2. Name of insurance company (select from dropdown menu)
3. Subscriber/Member ID number
4. Address and phone number of insurance company (usually located on the back of the card)
6. Click next
7. All of the information entered will appear here; double check all information to make sure it’s correct.
8. Once completed click CONFIRM
9. Print this page out and keep it for you records. If access to a printer is unavailable, the student needs to write down the confirmation number and keep it for their records.
