Student Affairs Scholarships and Awards

The Division of Student Affairs offers several scholarships and awards to help Western's undergraduate students reach their educational goals. A list of the scholarships and awards are listed below with a brief description of each. Applications are available on this site or at the Student Affairs Office, 114 East Scott. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Student Affairs Office, 828.227.7234, or e-mailing Shawna Young (scyoung@wcu.edu). The deadline for all applications is March 15, 2013.

Dean Plemmons Scholarship           Apply

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support for returning students who are active or were past participants in at least three of the following organizations or activities:
- A campus social organization (fraternity or sorority)
- A civic or campus service organization
- A campus academic honor society
- A campus organization that promotes WCU (athletic team, EnTOURage, band, etc.)
- Grade requirement of 3.0 GPA 

Jacob Spencer Medford Leadership Scholarship          Apply    

The Jacob Spencer Medford Scholarship is intended for student leaders with an interest in continuing their leadership development and involvement in civic engagement.  Students must be enrolled full-time; have a 3.0 GPA; be involved in active civic engagement; participate in a campus leadership position in a club, group or organization; and actively participate with a staff mentor.

Notification of Award

Award recipients are sent an email which includes the amount of the award and an agreement form outlining the criteria of the scholarship.  Students are asked to sign the scholarship agreement form and return it to the Office of Student Affairs.  Students may be required to send a thank-you not to the donor.  The scholarship award will be posted to the student's account after the signed agreement form and thank-you letter (if required) are sumbitted to the Office of Student Affairs.
