The E.M.B.E.R. (Experienced Men Begin re-Examining Reality) series aims to re-define the conceptions of masculinity and the ways in which culture defines gender. Topics will include men and the media, perceptions of body, family and standing up to sexual assault.
The E.M.B.E.R. series seeks to answer questions such as “What is a man? How do men view gender? How are men viewed in society? How do men view themselves as individuals and as a part of society? How do men communicate/establish relationships?
This series aims to:
- Enhance knowledge of men’s issues facing college communities today
- Re-define the perception of masculinity and gender in society
- Promote leadership and advocacy opportunities to participants
- Create both a fun and positive learning environment
E.M.B.E.R. will be offered as a complement to the G.L.O.W. (Growth and Learning Opportunities for Women) series for Western women. A joint workshop will be offered at the end of the academic year to “Light the Fire” to spark discussion and activism on issues of gender and social justice.
