Based on a research survey conducted in 2008:
Overall, 25% of survey participants reported some type of unwanted sexual experience (UWS) in their first 2 years at college (p. 333)and more reports are made of UWS earlier in the year than later in the year (p. 335). (percentages based on 102 survey participants)
Of those experiencing UWS:
- 22% experienced unwanted sexual touching
- 15% experienced attempted unwanted anal, vaginal, or oral sex
- 5% experienced completed unwanted anal, vaginal, or oral sex
- 2% defined their experience as rape

Did you know?
- Rape is the most common violent crime on American College campuses today
- Women 16 to 24 experience rape at rates four times higher than the assault rate of all women
- Fewer than 5 percent of college women who are victims of Rape or attempted rape report it
- 17.7 million American Women have been victims of attempted or completed rape
- 4% of WCU students report an attempted rape in the past 12 months. (~360 students)

Did you know?
Victims of sexual violence are:
- 3 times more likely to suffer from depression
- 6 times more likely to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder
- 13 times more likely to abuse alcohol
- 26 times more likely to abuse drugs
- 4 times more likely to contemplate suicide
