Keith Stiles
Senior Research Analyst & Scheduling Data Administrator

Keith Stiles is a Senior Research Analyst & Scheduling Data Administrator in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning within the Chancellor's division. Before joining the OIRP staff, he taught general mathematics, college algebra, general business, and basic computer courses at Haywood Community College and Southwestern Community College. He has also taught economics courses for the College of Business at Western. Keith also taught English (10th and 12th grade) and Spanish I at Tuscola High School.

 

He came to the Office of Institutional Research in August, 1998 as a Social Research Associate. Keith's duties included responding to external surveys, preparing the Fact Book, maintaining the Facilities Database for the campus, ad hoc requests, and some reporting to General Administration. In 2002, he was named Planning & Institutional Research Analyst with job duties centering on preparing external surveys for submission, preparing the Fact Book, managing all data reporting to General Administration, maintaining the office web page, and other ad hoc requests as needed. In 2007, he was named Senior Research Analyst. His current job duties focus on data reporting to General Administration, data analysis for various institutional research roles, R25 data preparation and implementation, and other ad hoc requests. He also serves as the webmaster of the North Carolina Association of Institutional Researchers (NCAIR).

 

Somewhat of a perennial student, Keith has four degrees from Western. He holds two bachelor's degrees: one with a double major in accounting and economics and a second in English Literature. He also hold's two master's degrees: an MBA and a MA in English Literature. His literary research interests center around Chaucer's works and appearances of magic in medieval literature. He is actively involved in professional organizations and maintains the web page for the Southeastern Medieval Association (SEMA).

 

During personal hours, Keith enjoys reading, listening to music, watching movies (he is a sci-fi and Tolkien aficionado), being around friends, playing with his two cats (Shadow and Arwen), and playing the piano and the organ. He is heavily involved in church-related activities including being the church organist, the VBS director, and, more recently, the AWANA Commander. Keith's hobbies include numismatics (especially graded Morgan Silver Dollars), reef aquariums, and bonsai (you can see some of them in his office - well at least those he didn't kill when he re-potted them!).
