Outcomes
& Dissemination
In addition to developing course materials to use next year,
faculty were asked to participate in the full three days of
the Institute, to engage in follow-up activities with the
members of their focus group, to apply what is learned to
one or more courses and to share in some way (article for
MountainRise),
a presentation at the annual Scholarship of Teaching &
Learning Faire, a Faculty Series presentation, create a focus
group web page, presentation to one’s departmental colleagues,
etc.) the outcomes of using the strategies / concepts in classes
with the WCU academic community. Institute focus groups also
have the opportunity to consider becoming
year-long Faculty Learning Communities.
Each participant received a variety of materials about teaching
and learning in higher education and about the topic of one’s
team.
The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning was the canopy
uniting the work of the Institute. The following articles
on SoTL were provided to faculty at the Institute:
“The
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: What’s the Problem,”
Randy Bass
