| Dr.
Alison Morrison-Shetlar was the guest facilitator for
the whole group sessions at our Summer Institute for Teaching
and Learning. She is a Professor of Biology and the Director
of the Karen L. Smith Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning
at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
Before going to Florida, Alison worked at Georgia Southern
University as a tenured professor and Director of Faculty
Development. Along with other teaching awards and nominations,
she was selected as a Georgia Board of Regents Distinguished
Professor of Teaching and Learning for two consecutive years
and has received over $3.8 million in grant funding.
Alison teaches general biology in classes of 200 and undergraduate
and graduate courses in molecular biology, biochemistry and
cellular biology. Her research interests include the influence
of teaching strategies, technology and learning styles on
student learning, particularly in large classes with high
enrollments. She is the coauthor, with Mary Marwitz, of Teaching
Creatively: Ideas in Action. Alison received her Ph.D. in
Biomedical Sciences from Dundee College of Technology in Scotland
in 1984. |
