CULLOWHEE – It will be rap with a Southern accent when North Carolina’s own Petey Pablo and Georgia-born-and-bred Bubba Sparxxx take the stage at Western Carolina University on Friday, Sept. 12.

The rap concert is sponsored by Last Minute Productions, Western’s student-run entertainment and activity planning organization.

Show time is 10 p.m. in the Ramsey Regional Activity Center. Advance tickets will go on sale Thursday, Sept. 4, at the reservation desk of A.K. Hinds University Center and at the Ramsey Center.

Advance ticket prices are $10 for Western Carolina students with valid identification cards, and $15 for the general public. All tickets purchased at the door are $15.

A native of Greenville, N.C., Pablo was “discovered” when record company executives overheard him rhyming in a New York restroom. That led to a recording contract, the debut album “Diary of a Sinner: First Entry,” and the hit single “Raise Up,” a popular tribute to his home state. His follow-up effort, “Still Writing in my Diary: 2nd Entry,” is due in September.

A self-professed “big, white rapper from the rural depths of Georgia,” Sparxxx took the rap world by storm with his 2001 debut “Dark Days, Bright Nights,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album charts and spawned the hit “Ugly.” Sparxxx will be rolling out his sophomore album, “Deliverance,” on Sept. 16 – four days after his appearance at Western.
