CULLOWHEE Students at Western Carolina University have selected five women and five men for the 2005 Homecoming Court, with a final campuswide election to determine the queen and king.

Announcement of the winners will take place Saturday, Oct. 29, as part of halftime activities at Western's football game against Elon University.

Seeking the title of queen:

LaRhonda Michelle Dowdell of Mebane, a junior majoring in social work, sponsored by the Organization of Ebony Students.  A 2003 graduate of Orange High School, Dowdell is the daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Dowdell.

Melanie Marie Galliers of Waynesville, a senior majoring in special education, sponsored by Sigma Alpha Omega sorority.  A 2002 graduate of Tuscola High School, Galliers is the daughter of Carroll and Gloria Craig.

Malea Lachelle Greene of Statesville, a senior majoring in marketing, sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.  A 2003 graduate of Statesville High School, Greene is the daughter of James and Jean Greene.

Sara Elizabeth Huskey of Matthews, a junior majoring in birth through kindergarten education, sponsored by Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  A 2003 graduate of Providence High School, Huskey is the daughter of Jim and Elizabeth Huskey.

Lauren Brooke Riggan of Aberdeen, a senior majoring in physical education, sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta sorority.  A 2002 graduate of Pinecrest High School, Riggan is the daughter of Larry and Sandy Riggan.

Seeking the title of king:

Bobby Ray Applewhite of Fremont, a junior majoring in construction management, is sponsored by friends.  A 2002 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School, Applewhite is the son of Retha Mae Applewhite.

Jeffrey Ryan Goss of Kennesaw, Ga., a senior majoring in business administration and law, sponsored by Sigma Chi fraternity.  A 2002 graduate of Kennesaw High School, Goss is the son of John and Debra Goss.

Patrick Shelton Kelly of Sanford, a junior majoring in political science, sponsored by Kappa Sigma fraternity.  A 2003 graduate of Lee County High School, Kelly is the son of Brooks and Pat Kelly.

Michael Thomas Mariner of Cary, a junior majoring in electronic media, sponsored by Walker Residence Hall.  A 2003 graduate of Athens Drive High School, Mariner is the son of Thomas and Donna Mariner.

Ricky Resharde Rainey of Gastonia, a senior majoring in communication, sponsored by Alpah Chi Omega sorority.  A 2001 graduate of Ashbrook High School, Rainey is the son of Mason and Barbara Rainey.
