FOUNDATION SELECTS OFFICERS

CULLOWHEE - The board of directors of the Western Carolina University Foundation recently selected a new slate of officers for the 2003-2004 year.

Kathy Abbott Boydston of Clyde is the new chair of the board of directors, Rick DeSoto of Charlotte is first vice chair, and Rocky Johnson of Greensboro is second vice chair.

The foundation is the university organization that manages private gifts from alumni, friends, businesses and groups. Through private contributions, the foundation creates scholarships and endowments, supplies supplemental funds for students and faculty, and offers other appropriate assistance to support the university in its mission to provide education, research and outreach service to the Western North Carolina region and the state of North Carolina.

Boydston is retired after a 34-year teaching career in the Haywood County school system. She earned her bachelor’s, master’s and educational specialist degrees from Western, and is a former president of the university’s Alumni Association.

DeSoto is senior vice president of investments with UBS Financial Services Inc. in Charlotte. He is a 1976 graduate of Western with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Johnson is executive vice president and North Carolina Triad regional president for Central Carolina Bank in Greensboro. He is a 1966 graduate of Western with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
