CULLOWHEE – Western Carolina University recognized the contributions of 90 staff members with a combined 1,235 years of service at the university’s annual Employee Service Awards on Wednesday, June 11.

Norma Bryson Medford, first recipient of the Judy H. Dowell Outstanding Support Staff Employee Award at Western Carolina University, receives a plaque and $1,000 check from Western Chancellor John W. Bardo.

“It’s a real pleasure to recognize people who make the campus so special,” said Chancellor John Bardo in opening the program.

Bardo announced the first recipient of the Judy H. Dowell Outstanding Support Staff Employee Award. Norma Bryson Medford, office assistant in Western’s College of Business, was cited for being dependable and helpful to faculty, staff, students and administrators, and for being an excellent ambassador for Western. She was chosen from a field of 20 nominees. Medford received a plaque and $1,000 check.

Retirees – Mary Jo Allen, Ann Ball, Carolyn Beasley, Dixie Beede, Margie Bishop, Peggy Bryson, Thurman Franklin, Tim Jacobs, Edna Lamberson, Mary Lewis, Thelma Lusk, Joann Rhinehart, Linda Sutton, Tom Tabor, William Williams and Carole Wood.

Thirty years of service -- Annie McDonald and JoAnn Rhinehart.

Twenty-five years of service -- Carol Arnold, Lila Buchanan, Robert Childers, Donald Cope, Peggy Cope, Katherine Green, Bethel McCarter, Lynda McNeely, Sharon Painter, Carolyn Bryson Wiggins, Eugene Wiggins and James Wise.

Twenty years of service – Clara Bryson, James Bumgarner, Richard Byrd, Charles Crisp, Pam Degraffenreid, Donna Ferrara, George Frizzell, Belva Ham, Milton Harris, Jack Hoyle, Byron Johnson Jr., Mary Lewis, Carla Luker, Elizabeth Mainwaring, Joseph Miller, Bob Orr, Elizabeth Rochester, Delaine Wilkes and Kathy Wong.
