CULLOWHEE – Travis M. Bradey of Sylva recently received a Centex Homes “Build Your Future” Scholarship and Internship.

The scholarship provides $2,500 toward academic expenses and $500 to cover the cost of a trip to the National Association of Home Builders national convention in Florida.

As part of the requirements for graduation from Western's construction management program, each student must complete an internship with a construction industry company. Bradey was interested in the home building segment of the construction industry and was interviewed by different divisions of Centex Homes, the fourth largest home building company in the United States. He was offered a paid position in the North Carolina Triad Division.

“Travis was nominated by Brad Griffin, the division president, to receive one of the few Centex Homes Scholarships because of his eagerness to learn, good attitude, motivation and people skills,” said Bradford Sims, head of Western's construction management program.

Griffin also serves as one of the industry board members for Western's construction management program, and Centrex Homes provides many course presentations for construction management majors.

Construction management is a professional service that applies effective management techniques to the planning, design and construction of a project from the beginning to end for the purpose of controlling time, cost and quality.
