WCU ART STUDENT
WINS SCHOLARSHIP
CULLOWHEE - Patrick Schneider of Waynesville is the 2003-04 recipient of Western Carolina University’s Lorraine Stone Scholarship.
The endowed scholarship was established in 1996 in memory of Lorraine Stone, a Haywood County resident, who, at age 65, began her undergraduate art studies at WCU. Shortly after receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1995, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and died later that year.
The endowment generates one $900 scholarship annually. The recipient of the scholarship must be 35 or older and must be a full-time or returning student majoring in art. While the scholarship is promoted in the Western North Carolina region, it has no geographical boundaries.
Schneider, 44, is a junior majoring in art with a concentration in photography.
