WESTERN'S SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
INITIATIVE KICKS OFF WITH FACULTY LUNCHEON AUGUST 19

CULLOWHEE -- Western’s newest initiative, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, will hold its fall semester kick off at noon Tuesday, August 19 with a luncheon for new and returning faculty in the University Center’s Grandroom.

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Western is an initiative aimed at bringing the mission and aspirations of the university to deeper fruition. It will strive to improve student learning, renew faculty teaching and professional development, deepen collegiality among the university community, and feature Western’s mission as the epitome of academic life at the university.

“[This initiative] has the potential to transform our academic community and to push Western into greater regional, even national, prominence for the excellence of its faculty,” said Chancellor John W. Bardo.

The Scholarship initiative began with the 1st annual Summer Institute for Teaching and Learning in June 2003 with 37 faculty members participating in the 3-day event.

At the kickoff luncheon, brief presentations will be made about some of the opportunities available to faculty for personal and professional enrichment.

The faculty luncheon will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 12-2 p.m. in the University Center Grandroom. Reservations must be made by 5 p.m. August 14 to Jane Kneller by email jkneller@email.wcu.edu or phone 227-7196.
