CULLOWHEE - For last year's Super Bowl, former Western Catamount David Patten was sidelined with an injury. This year, it looks like he'll be playing with his New England Patriot teammates for the big game in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 6.

Last Sunday, Jan. 23, Patten faced off against another former Catamount, Willie Williams of the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the AFC Championship game. The Patriots won that game, 41-27.

Both Williams and Patten played football for the Catamounts in the early 1990s. Patten was a freshman in 1992 when Williams was a senior. Both are from South Carolina and went to high schools in the Columbia area before coming to Western.
