CULLOWHEE – Western Carolina University's ninth annual Josh Grooms Engineering Technology Alumni Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, April 23, at Mill Creek Golf Course in Franklin.

The annual event is held in honor of Joshua Thomas Grooms, a graduate of Western's industrial distribution program who passed away in April 1999. While a Western student, Grooms founded the tournament to raise money for deserving industrial distribution majors. The tournament was later re-named in his memory.

Grooms served as president of the Industrial Distribution Club his senior year at Western, and received the outstanding senior award for the program.

The main purpose of the tournament is to raise scholarship money for the engineering technology department, and organizers say the event has raised more than $35,800 since its inception.

Tournament registration is $55, payable to the Western Carolina University Foundation. Participants can have their names placed at a tee by sponsoring a hole in the tournament at one of three monetary levels – gold ($300), silver ($200) or bronze ($100). Participants also can donate prizes to be given away at the banquet.

The day's activities will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and late entries, followed by team and cart assignments at 9:45 a.m. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m., and an award ceremony and luncheon will begin at 2:30 p.m.

For more information, call Tom Grooms at (704) 953-0774 or Kevin Grooms at (816) 753-0638.
