DANNY GIFT THIS YEAR'S MEN'S                                                                                                               
WCU INTRAMURAL MVP ATHLETE

CULLOWHEE Western Carolina University's intramural sports program brings together hundreds of students on campus to compete in a variety of team and individual sports.

For the last three years in a row, Danny Gift of Warrensville has won the men's most valuable player award. Gift has served as the team manager for the Baptist Student Union intramural team.

Gift, son of Dennis and Karen Calhoune of Warrensville, is a senior expected to graduate in August with a bachelor's degree in sport management. He attended high school at Ashe County High School and graduated in 2001.

The mission of the WCU intramural sports program is to build supportive and inclusive communities for the university. The program, with more than 500 teams participating annually in a wide variety of individual, team and co-ed sports, aims to provide a positive use of leisure time for students at Western.  In addition to participating in the sports, students also serve as coaches, officials and part-time program employees.
