STAFF MEMBERS WIN CASE AWARDS
CULLOWHEE – Staff members in Western Carolina University's Division of Advancement and External Affairs recently received recognition from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for their work on three marketing projects.
CASE, the leading educational association for professionals in the field of advancement, presented Awards of Excellence to staff members for their work on the division's 2004-05 Loyalty Fund campaign, titled “Provide the Missing Piece;” for two radio advertisements, “Phone a Friend” and “Time;” and for recruitment collateral materials developed for use by Western's Office of Admissions. All three awards were presented at the CASE District III conference in Atlanta.
The “Provide the Missing Piece” Loyalty Fund campaign, which included a brochure, Web site, specialized license tag and other materials, won recognition in the “Total Educational Fund Raising” category of the contest. The campaign was a collaborative effort involving Brett Woods, director of annual and special gifts; Casey Carter, program assistant; Jim Miller, associate vice chancellor for development; Rubae Sander, director of publications; Bronwyn Blenn, graphic design artist; Mark Haskett and John Ashcraft, photographers; and Amy Walker, Web editor.
“Phone a Friend” and “Time,” radio advertisements developed by Bill Studenc, director of news services in the Office of Public Relations, received honors in the “Radio Programs and Announcements” category. Both ads, produced by ProComm studios in Fletcher, were used to promote Western's graduate programs.
Recruitment collateral materials developed by the Office of Public Relations took a prize in the “Visual Design: Improvement in Design” category. The materials included the viewbook, search mailer and postcards used for student recruitment by the Office of Admissions.
Public Relations staff members involved in collateral materials project were Loretta Adams, publications art director; Avery Johnson, publications designer; Mark Haskett, university photographer; Rubae Sander, publications director; and Jim Rowell, senior director of marketing and promotions.
