WCU CHANCELLOR APPOINTED TO NCAA
MINORITY OPPORTUNITIES COMMITTEE

CULLOWHEE - Western Carolina University Chancellor John W. Bardo has been appointed to the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.

The Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee consists of 12 members - six from the NCAA’s Division I, three from Division II and three from Division III. Committee members include college and university presidents, athletics administrators, coaches and athletics conference commissioners. A student-athlete from each division also serves on the committee.

The committee is charged with conducting reviews of issues related to the interests of ethnic minority student-athletes, NCAA minority programs, and NCAA policies that affect ethnic minorities. These issues focus on the education and welfare of minority student-athletes and enhancement of opportunities for minorities and women in coaching, athletics administration, officiating and the NCAA governance structure.

Bardo’s term of service on the committee begins Sept. 1, 2004, and continues through Sept. 1, 2008.
