WCU THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM
EARNS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

The theatre arts program at Western Carolina University has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the official accrediting agency for academic theater programs in the United States.

With its associate membership into NAST, Western joins about 135 institutional members across the nation to earn the endorsement from the association's Commission on Accreditation.

Founded in 1969, NAST is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges and universities that establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials.

“Accreditation of our theatre arts program is important, independent validation of the quality of the educational experience that we provide our students,” said Susan Brown-Strauss, head of WCU's department of communication, theatre and dance. “It is a stamp of approval from our peers in theatre arts education signifying that we are meeting a set of rigorous national standards set by the only theatre-accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.”

Western's department of communication, theatre and dance offers degrees in communication, speech and theatre arts, theatre, musical theatre, and motion picture and television production. For more information, call (828) 227-7491 or visit http://www.wcu.edu/as/ctd/index.htm .
