Western Carolina University's musical theatre program will present “A Grand Night for Singing,” a celebration of the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, in the studio theater of WCU's Fine and Performing Arts Center Thursday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 15.

The show features beloved musical selections from theatric classics such as “The Sound of Music,” “The King and I,” “South Pacific” and “ Oklahoma!” performed by five singers and an orchestra. The production is directed by Paige Posey, associate artistic director of Flat Rock Playhouse.

“The show was first produced on Broadway by Tony Award-winning Walter Boobie,” said Brad Martin, interim director of WCU 's musical theatre program. “This Rodgers and Hammerstein revue opened the 1994 Broadway season with flair and distinction, garnering wildly enthusiastic notices as well as earning two Tony nominations, including best musical.”

The WCU production's cast consists of five music students – Jamie Drye of Concord, Rachel Phillips of Raleigh, Elena Pisano Bogan of Asheville, Matthew Scott of Waynesville and Christy Waymouth of Huntersville.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. , except for a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday, Oct. 15. Admission is $1. For tickets or more information, contact the Fine and Performing Arts Center box office at (828) 227-2479.
