WCU SMALL BUSINESS CENTER
The Western Regional Office of the Small Business & Technology Development Center, sponsored by Western Carolina University, was recently recognized for helping more small businesses receive Small Business Administration loans than any other SBTDC office in North Carolina.
The office received an award presented by Lee Cornelison, N.C. district director of the SBA, at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce's Annual Small Business Recognition Luncheon. “This accomplishment is even more impressive considering that this SBTDC center assisted more businesses with SBA loans than even offices in larger cities like Raleigh and Charlotte,” Cornelison said.
The 17 SBA loans received by businesses with the Western center's help include three federal disaster loans related to the floods of 2004.
The Small Business & Technology Development Center is a business development service of the University of North Carolina system. The Western regional center serves the 14 westernmost counties of North Carolina from offices in Cullowhee and Asheville. The SBTDC provides free, confidential business counseling to small to medium enterprises from 11 offices across the state.
