CHEROKEE STORYTELLER TO BE FEATURED
DURING OCT. 24 FOLK LIFE PROGRAM AT WCU

The “Telling Mountain Stories” fall folk life series will continue at Western Carolina University on Tuesday, Oct. 24, with a presentation by Cherokee storyteller Kathi Smith Littlejohn.

A native of Cherokee, Littlejohn worked as a teenage guide at the Oconaluftee Indian Village and Living History Museum. On days when the weather was unfavorable and the tour groups sparse, Littlejohn and the other young tour guides would listen to the older workers tell traditional Cherokee stories. She has continued to learn the traditional legends and stories as an adult. Her storytelling style has been described as dramatic, entertaining and engaging for the audience.

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of WCU's Mountain Heritage Center. The museum is joining with Philip Coyle of WCU's ethnography laboratory and Tom Hatley, Sequoyah Distinguished Professor in Cherokee Studies, in presenting the series.
