WCU CONSTRUCTION HONOR SOCIETY
Student members of Sigma Lambda Chi, the international construction honor society in Western Carolina University 's Kimmel School of Construction Management, Engineering and Technology, recently provided their expertise and labor for ARF, the humane society of Jackson County.
The WCU students designed and built a canopy attached to the main ARF building on N.C. Highway 107, and also built two roof structures over a kennel at the home of one of the lead foster parents.
“ARF is very pleased with the outcome and very thankful to our group of students,” said Carol Woodson, assistant professor of construction management at WCU and adviser to Western's chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi. “The people and the animals are now sheltered from the weather during adoption days.”
The members of Sigma Lambda Chi are Brandon Blevins of Hixson, Tenn; Stanley Brigman of Hendersonville; Kris Bryson of Sylva; Josh Day of Sylva; Brian Gallagher of Sylva; Kevin Kirk of Rougemont; Sam Long of Sylva; Derrick Morgan of Fort Mill, S.C.; Daniel Manring of Sylva; Carl Slagle of Franklin; Julia Tew of Zebulon; John Thompson of Hendersonville; and Devin Wilson of Lake Toxaway.
A discount on the cost of building materials was provided by Lowe's of Franklin.
