The Western Carolina University 2009 Josefina Niggli Celebration Committee and the Fine Art Museum seeks student art work in all media that will be considered for a prestigious commission to create a portrait of Josefina Niggli, acclaimed writer, poet and theater and movie director. Josefina Niggli was the founder and a faculty member of the WCU Department of Theater.
Based on the quality of previous artwork samples created, a student artist will be commissioned to create a unique work of art that embodies the spirit and character of Ms. Niggli. Finalists selected for the portrait commission will be encouraged to create a work of art that truly expresses Ms. Niggli’s dynamic persona and while highly expressive, will reflect a recognizable characterization of Josefina Niggli.
The winner will receive a $500 Best of Show Purchase Award and the work will become part of the College of Fine & Performing Arts Collection, to be permanently installed in the WCU Niggli Theater lobby.
