Homecoming queen and king crowned at WCU

Western Carolina University crowned Ramona Dowdell, a senior from Mebane, the queen and Joshua David Thompson, a senior from Lincolnton, the king of the 2007 Homecoming Court during halftime activities at Western’s football game against The Citadel on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The king and queen were chosen through campus-wide election from a court of five women and five men.

Seeking the title of queen:

Kristan Noel Cardinali, a senior majoring in broadcast communication, sponsored by Greek Council. A 2004 Weddington High School graduate from Weddington, Cardinali is the daughter of Gregory and Susan Cardinali.

Stephanie Leigh Cornett, a junior majoring in nursing, sponsored by Orientation Programs. A 2005 graduate of North Forsyth High School from Pfafftown, Cornett is the daughter of Steven Cornett and Beverly Cornett.

Ramona Shana Dowdell, a junior majoring in social work, sponsored by Scott Hall. A 2005 graduate of Orange High School from Mebane, Dowdell is the daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Dowdell.

Delaney Caitlin Holloway, a senior majoring in elementary education, sponsored by Phi Mu fraternity. A 2004 graduate of Hayesville High School from Hayesville, Holloway is the daughter of Jim and Sharon Holloway.

Elisabeth Anne Wallace, a senior majoring in marketing, sponsored by Delta Zeta sorority. A 2004 graduate of West Stokes High School from King, Wallace is the daughter of Donnie and Jane Wallace.

Seeking the title of king:

Dante Rashad Hill, a senior majoring in business administration and law, sponsored by The Leadership Institute. A 2004 graduate of Orange High School from Durham, Hill is the son of Ricky Hill and Vanessa Battle.

Matthew Stephen Johnson, a sophomore majoring in motion picture and television production, sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. A 2006 graduate of West Henderson High School from Hendersonville, Hill is the son of Patrick Johnson and Melinda Gore.

Ashlin D. Massey, a junior majoring in business law, sponsored by Phi Mu fraternity. A 2005 graduate of Forest Hills High School, Massey is the son of Demetria Massey and the late Cleveland Garmon.

Christopher Stewart Powell, a senior majoring in social sciences education, sponsored by Greek Council. A 2003 graduate of Freedom High School from Morganton, Powell is the son of Rex and Barbara Powell.

Joshua David Thompson, a senior majoring in broadcast communication, sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. A 2004 graduate of Lincolnton High School, Thompson is the son of Frank Richard Thompson and Victoria Yates Thompson.
