<head>Historical Note</head>
<p>
The range of dates reflected in this photograph album covers the period of the United States' involvement in World War I (1917 - 1918), the establishment of the Oteen Veterans Administration Hospital, and a period before and after World War I of growth and prosperity for the Asheville, North Carolina, vicinity. Developments in transportation are reflected in the number of automobiles visible in the pictures, although horse-drawn carriages are also present.
