NEWSLETTER 09/29/05
Dear Advisory Group,
Thank you for attending the meeting yesterday. I think we covered a lot of ground and I appreciate your review of the project so far. Please take some time to review the storyboard as the next phase of the project—the actual prototype of the site—will rest on the content as a foundation. As I mentioned in the meeting, please tell me if you think there are gaps in the story, if you feel the sequencing doesn’t contribute to the public’s understanding, or if you find any inconsistencies or mistakes. As Bil noted, we are creating an on-line exhibition and exhibitions are always a matter of interpretation. For those Heritage Partners, it will be important to review your section to ensure that this interpretation meshes with your understanding of your institution’s role in the Revival. It will be equally important for Partners to consider how the objects they plan to digitize will fit into the storyboard.
David Smith suggested a project newsletter and others asked for materials to be emailed to them. We are currently looking at adding a folder to the still-hidden website. If we add such a folder, you will be able to go to that URL--http://www.wcu.edu/libtestbed/testthings/craftrevival/about.htm—and access all materials and documents for the project. I’ll also put a copy of the grant there for your easy access.
We invite you to look at the Kephart site as well; I was only able to spend a few short minutes showing that to you yesterday. If you think that it will be helpful, I am sure we can talk George Frizzel into giving us a more detailed “tour.” The reason I bring up Kephart is that it used the same NC ECHO standards and same software (Content DM) as we are using for the Craft Revival. You can access that site at:

For those who attended the morning session only, the afternoon was focused on reviewing metadata fields and controlled vocabulary lists. The aim is to have all of these fields and corresponding lists fixed before our first training session. We are ordering equipment and will have it outfitted with the necessary software in the meantime.
As you go through the material, email me any of your comments. If you prefer to call or have me call you, we’ll set up a time as we are still in the process of outfitting my office with a direct line.
For those that were unable to make it yesterday, I’ll be mailing out your packets. We’ll look forward to seeing you again at the next meeting. We have scheduled a final fall meeting for Dec. 7th and are trying to schedule one in November. I will be getting back to you as soon as we can confirm some details as to how that Nov. meeting will unfold.
Again, it was great to see so many familiar faces and I look forward to moving forward.
