Hominy Creek N.C. Feb. 22rd 1861
Rev. L.F. Siler
Dear sir
In the last No. of your paper I
see published the proceedings of a meeting held at
Waynesville on the 8th inst. as communicated
to you In which I am made to say that
I was in favor of N.C. sesceding with a view to reconstruction &c.”
I did say I was identified with the South
as stated in the communication, and I further said that N.C.
would not have her convention in session until
after Lincoln would be in office, and would
have indicated his policy, which if it should
be to Carry out the Chicago platform, and
we should fail to get an ajustment on the
Crittenden plan, or the Virginia plan, or
otherwise, then I thought Virginia and all the
Border slave states would go out of the union,
and I would then be for N.C. going out as stated in the
Communication you published. --
Now I will not say I have used the precise
language here that I did on that ocasion, as
I spoke without notes; and I now write by
memory, but this I do know that these are
the sentiments that I then intended to convey,
and that I now hold.-- You will please
give this a place in your paper at
your erlyest convienance so that I may
be set right before the public. and _____ ____
_____ may go yours Very Truly

p.s. papers copying the proceding of the meeting refered to
above, will please copy this also. J.C.
