_______________

* This variation of the third person is marked F. the initial of the word Familiar, which is used to distinguish this form of the personal prefix. The terms present and absent, have been employed for this purpose. But they do not appear to convey the precise idea of the difference; as both forms, are often used without regard to the presence or absence of the party spoken of. Perhaps the true impression on the mind of the speaker, suggesting the choice of the form (Cherokee symbols) in the singular and (Cherokee symbols) in the plural, the corresponding form in other moods and tenses, may be, a feeling of intimacy with the person spoken of; arising from relationship, close connection or other similar circumstances; and that this form is intended to express a less degree of formality or strangeness than the other. If, however, any of your correspondents will suggest a more appropriate term; the writer will feel pleasure in adopting it.
