Western Carolina offers a Comprehensive Science Education that prepares students to teach high school science. Students can choose a concentration in biology, chemistry, earth sciences or physics. Graduates receive licensure to teach grades 9-12 in North Carolina. Where You'll Go

Courses in the program are balanced between courses in your area of concentration and courses in teaching methods, classroom design and leadership. Science courses include hands-on experience in the field such as hydrology research along area streams, exploring natural products chemistry in partnership with area companies or studying plant science at the Highlands Biological Station. Students complete internships and student teaching experiences with mentorship from dedicated, experienced teachers and guidance from WCU faculty. They also have opportunity to participate in undergraduate research conferences and work with after-school and tutoring programs.
