Programs and Costs


The Intensive English Program (IEP) provides the following options:

 IEP Programs


FULL-TIME INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM

Attend the Intensive English Program for one or more semesters!  

Fall Semester - 16 weeks, begins mid-August
Spring Semester - 16 weeks, begins early-January
Summer Semester -  8 weeks, begins early-June

  • Three levels of English study: high beginner, intermediate, and advanced
  • Instruction and strategies in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and in special topics such as literature, film, academic research, iBT test-preparation and culture
  • 20 hours per week in language instruction; a variety of cross-cultural activities throughout the year
  • Classes in session Monday—Friday between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm

Students in the full-time program have access to the same things as university students:

  • On-campus housing and dining (more information)
  • Free tutoring services
  • Cultural events and student activities
  • State-of-the-Art Gym and athletic facilities
  • University sports events
  • Much more!

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION TO WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY

IEP students may apply for conditional admission to Western Carolina University's undergraduate and graduate programs. After successfully completing the IEP, they may enter a degree program without providing a TOEFL or IELTS score to WCU. 

Students who do not complete the IEP at WCU must have a 68 TOEFL or 6.0 IELTS for undergraduate admissions.

GATE TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

Enhance your English teaching skills at Western Carolina University Teacher Training Program. Immerse yourself in courses and activities designed by experienced TESL/TEFL teacher-trainers to renew and broaden your professional skills and knowledge. It will run from January 23, 2016- June 2, 2017 and includes a supervised practicum during Summer 2017. The summer practicum will be held at WCU's Biltmore Park in beautiful Asheville, NC.

The program also includes opportunities for you to step outside the classroom and enjoy urban and outdoor adventures in and around Asheville, North Carolina, a small city that receives international recognition as a cultural nexus for arts, crafts, food and music enthusiasts as well as history, spirituality and outdoor experiences. To learn more, contact us at iep@wcu.edu
