Director of the Mountain Heritage Center Dr. Tyler Blethen holds a doctorate in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Listed in Who's Who In America, he has written, with historian Curtis Wood, From Ulster to Carolina: the Migration of the Scotch-Irish to Southwestern North Carolina and A Mountain Heritage: the Illustrated History of Western Carolina University .

David Dorondo

Learn how events from the 1919 Paris Peace Conference to the 1990 reunification of Germany have shaped the modern world. Dr. David Dorondo, assistant professor of history, has written Bavaria and German Federalism: Reich to Republic, 1918-1933, 1945-1949. A Fulbright Fellow at Otto-Friedrich-Universitat in Germany in 1985-86, he specializes in German history.

A senior research associate of the Mountain Heritage Center and head of the Department of History, Dr. Curtis Wood teaches courses in Appalachian and Western North Carolina history and frequently speaks to groups in the region. A member of the North Carolina Historical Society, he is the author of Ulster and North America, a publication of the Mountain Heritage Center.
