Scholarships

There are several opportunities for scholarships specific to the Theatre Arts program, as well as merit and need-based scholarships through the university.

Josefina Niggli Scholarship

The Josefina Niggli Scholarships are endowed scholarships honoring Josefina Niggli, distinguished playwright and teacher. As many as 10 or more students majoring in theatre arts and with established records of achievement in the WCU Theatre may receive awards each year. Scholarships vary from 500 to 1,500 dollars per year.

  • Student must apply for the scholarship which is awarded in the spring for the following academic year
  • Students must reapply each year to be considered – scholarships are not automatically renewed
  • Applications obtained from the Stage and Screen office
  • Amount varies from $250-$1500 per year with as many as 10 students may receive the award each year
  • Criteria based on but not limited to:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.7
    • Participation in WCU theatrical productions in any area of production
    • Demonstration of student adhering to the elements of professionalism as listed in Student Code of Conduct


WCU Musical Theatre Award

  • Student must apply for the scholarship which is awarded in the spring for the following academic year
  • Students must reapply each year to be considered – scholarships are not automatically renewed
  • Applications obtained from the Stage and Screen office
  • $500 awards
  • Criteria based on but not limited to:
    • Minimum gpa of 2.7
    • Participation in WCU musical theatre productions in the performance area
    • Demonstration of the student’s collegiality and efforts to be an active member in the program
    • Demonstration of good citizenship and good standing within WCU
