Rules & Regulations

  • The course closes at 11:30am and course accommodations will also be discontinued at that time. Participants still on the course are doing so at their own risk.
  • 5K Awards begin at 9am and Half Marathon Awards begin at 11am, regardless of participant's status of completion of the race.
  • You must be in good health and physically prepared to take on the challenge of the half marathon and/or 5K.
  • You must be 13 years old or older to participate in The Valley of the Lilies Half Marathon.
  • Race numbers (bibs) are required to participate. No bandits.
  • Bibs are non-transferable.
  • Coaches, baby-joggers, strollers, bikes, dogs or other pets, wagons, in-line skates, skateboards and other wheeled devices will not be allowed on the course.  Strollers and baby joggers are permitted on the 5K course at the participant's own risk.  Keep in mind there are gravel paths along the 5K course.
  • Participants assisted in any way during the race will be disqualified. This includes having any non-registered runners/walkers alongside a participant during the race.
  • Walkers are welcome, but the half marathon course will officially close at 11:30am. Participants are welcome to complete the course at their own risk. If unable to walk the half marathon course in 3.5 hours or less, it is recommended to participate in the 5K as an alternative.
  • No full ear-covering headsets for listening devices (iPod, MP3 players, etc.) are allowed. Earbuds that do not fully cover earways or obstruct traffic noise are allowed, but it is recommended that they be kept at a low volume in order to hear traffic and other people because of the "open course" structure of the race.

  • All sales are final. Refunds and transfers are not allowed under any circumstances.

FAQ's

Can I transfer my race registration to another participant?

Race registrations are non-transferable.  This is standard for most races.  Although we want to be flexible, we also want individuals to commit to participation in the Valley of the Lilies.

Is my race registration refundable if I decide not to participate in the race?

Race registrations are non-refundable.  If you decide not to participate in the race due to injury, illness, or any other reason, you will not receive money back from your registration.  As with most races the more pre-registrations we have, the more we can better plan for the race both monetarily and from a safety and race day experience standpoint.

Can I switch from the 5K to the Half Marathon or the Half Marathon to the 5K?

You can switch race registrations up until Tuesday, March 28th.  However, if you are switching from the Half Marathon to the 5K, you will not be refunded any money.  If you are switching from the 5K to the Half Marathon, you will owe the extra registration fees based on the time of the switch.  For example, if the cost of the half marathon is $60 on the day you request the switch and you paid $20 for the 5K, you will owe $40.  Additionally, individuals who switch races may not be guaranteed the correct race shirt now that we have a specific 5K and a specific half marathon shirt.  To switch your race registration, please e-mail sage@wcu.edu by Tuesday, March 28th.

what do I do if i realize i input incorrect information on my registration form on imathlete.com?

If you recognize the need to change some of your registration information, please e-mail your name, contact information, and changes to sage@wcu.edu. Changes can be made through Tuesday, March 28th.

do you allow individual to register in person or do you only take online registrations?

We prefer individuals register through our online registration on active.com. However, if you need to make arrangements to register in person or via hard copy registration, please e-mail your request to sage@wcu.edu.

can i register for the race on race day?

Yes, we accept race day registrations between 6:30am-7:30am on the day of the race. However, keep in mind that race day registrations prices are a bit higher. See the Fees tab above for more information.
