Recruiting On Campus

The Center for Career and Professional Development welcomes employers to multiple recruitment events annually and allows on-campus recruiting arranged through our office. On-campus recruiting is restricted to the fall and spring semester during the time classes are in session. Recruiting is not allowed during the following times:

First Week of Classes
Official University Holidays and Breaks
Final Exam Week
Fall and Spring Advising Days
During CCPD Major events

Recruiting Using JobCat

Western Carolina University utilizes a Symplicity / NACELink based job posting site called Job Cat 2.0. We encourage all organizations to create an account to utilize this system. Through this system organizations will have access to post/edit/delete positions, register for fairs and events, and sign-up for on-campus interviews and information sessions. JobCat 2.0 Instructions for off-campus employers

  • Please click here to register with JobCat 2.0
    Fill out the information requested. Required fields will be noted with a red *.
    After registering, the system will take you to the Post a Job tab.  Below are a few very important reminders  when posting jobs through the JobCat 2.0 system:
    Position Type: Choose the appropriate position type.  You may choose more than one.
    Salary Type: Type the hourly wage or salary range in this field.
    Application Instructions:  If you want to use JobCat 2.0 to require students upload resumes and cover letters, you may choose your preferred method of receiving those documents.  Please note if you choose Email or Accumulate Online, JobCat 2.0 will require the student to upload a resume. HOWEVER, if you prefer students NOT use JobCat 2.0 to apply for your positions, please choose Other and type instructions for applying for your position. You may require additional documents by clicking on the document type beside Optional Documents.

If you would like to check any job postings your department or organization has submitted: click the Home tab, then click View Job Postings on the right.

Benefits to using JobCat 

  • Each job may be saved in JobCat so that employers need to submit the form once for the job ad, unless there are changes that need to be made. For re-postings, employers may update their postings by logging into their employer account on JobCat 2.0.

  • The expiration function allows job postings to be automatically deactivated at the pre-selected date.

  • The layout of the job ad is much more user-friendly and easier to read.

  • There are one-click searches for Non Work Study, Work Study and local off-campus employment.

  • Employers may specify how students should apply for the job.  For example, employers who have an online application may include the link so that when students click on the Apply Now button in JobCat, they will be automatically transferred to their specified application page.  Or, for employers who prefer to have students call or email, that information can easily displayed when students click on the Apply Now button.

    Information Sessions

    Western Carolina University offers organizations the opportunity to conduct INFORMATION SESSIONS with our students. Information sessions are a great way to educate the student population about your organization's mission, products, services, and employment opportunities. All sessions require advanced scheduling and preparation. Employers may request an information session directly through you Job Cat 2.0 employer account. Information sessions are held Monday -Thursday between 10:00am -4:00pm in a variety of spaces on campus. The identification of the space is dependent on the employer's needs including Audio Visual, Refreshments, Capacity, etc.

    Fairs & Events

    Registration is currently open for our Fairs and Events and is available through your Job Cat 2.0 employer account. Registration is time and date stamped and are determined on a first come, first serve basis and fit with the campus. Employers are encouraged to submit their registration requests early as space is limited. Full details for the fairs can be found in the registration form on Job Cat 2.0.

    Tabling Events

    Tabling is a great way to increase visibility, develop brand recognition and raise awareness about opportunities with your organization. The best days to conduct tabling events are Monday - Thursday between 9:00am-5:00pm throughout the fall and spring semesters. To request a table event, please log into your Job Cat 2.0 account and fill out an event request form.

    On-Campus Interviewing

    Through the On-Campus Interviewing Program organizations have the opportunity to interview Western Carolina University students and alumni for open positions. This service assists organizations in establishing a strong presence on-campus and is a key resource in talent acquisition. All on-campus interviewing require advanced scheduling and preparation. Employers can request this service directly through your Job Cat 2.0 employer account. On-campus interviews can take place in a half-day (9:00am - 12:00pm / 1:00pm - 5:00pm) or full-day (9:00am - 5:00pm) schedule Monday - Friday in the fall or spring semesters.

    Experiential Learning

    Western Carolina University offers a variety of experiential learning opportunities for students. Employers can participate with Western by allowing students to participate in academic internships, non-academic internships, job shadowing and externship events. If your organization is interested in learning more about these opportunities or signing-up to participate please contact the Center for Career and Professional Development at 828-227-7133.

    class Presentations and Workshops

    Class presentations and workshops supply recruiters with the opportunity to interact with WCU students in a more informal recruiting setting. We offer a variety of workshop and presentation topics and always look forward to including employer partners in these presentations.     There are several ways to spread-the-word on-campus about your organization and what you can offer Western students. In addition to the above named venues you can also brand yourself though ads and sponsorships.

    STUDENT CLUB SPONSORSHIPS

    Many student clubs on-campus hold various events during the year. Many of these events are campus-wide and reach a large range of students. If you are interested in sponsoring one of these events please contact the Center for Career and Professional Development at 828-227-7133.

    INTERNSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

    Western Carolina University also looks to our employer partners to consider supporting internship opportunities for students through an internship scholarship. WCU has a large population of first-generation college students as well as students who need to work while attending school. This can be a barrier for students who are looking to develop professionally and participate in internship programs. An internship scholarship is an excellent way to support students development and help brand your organization on-campus with the student population.
