This 2005 PhD dissertation (directed by Diane Watt) discusses Gower’s writings and analyzes the parallels between Gower’s writings and the political climate of his day, "paying particular attention to the way in which both writers appropriate their sources and the theories of history." “Chaucer and Gower in Ricardian England” describes, in detail, the political climate of Gower’s time.
