In April, the Office of Web Services screened several CMS vendors and invited the two finalists to campus to give a hands-on demonstration with a group of staff and faculty. Red Dot was selected as WCU's CMS vendor because their software met the university's qualifications and, according to the faculty and staff group, was the easiest and most intuitive to use.
When the CMS is in place, those who are charged with creating or updating web pages will simply log in and access their site which will be hosted on the off-site CMS server. They will be able to make copy changes, add photos, or create new pages using one of the template designs. The CMS editing function is similar to using standard word-processing software.
Red Dot CMS software is role-based. When a page has to be approved or edited, the creator will send a draft to an editor or approver who will then approve and post the page. At that point the revisions will appear on WCU's web site.
When content changes are made that affect other pages the CMS will automatically update the related pages at the same time. The CMS preserves an archive of previous pages so that older versions can be retrieved and posted. |
