Residential Network (ResNet)
ResNet is
a shared 10mb ethernet connection that exists in all of Western's
residence halls. There are two network ports in each room.
These connections provide unlimited, direct access to the
Internet from the students computer and is more than 120
times faster than a normal dial-up connection. ResNet runs
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Student Email and Webspace
Students
who are registered for one or more classes will receive an
automatically-generated account approximately one week (possibly
earlier) prior to the start of classes. Email for this account
will be accessible via CyberCat Pipeline or a local (to the
student’s computer) pop or imap
client. Each student will be provided with 15 megabytes of
storage space. Each student’s account will remain active
during that student’s active enrollment (including
the time between active terms).
News flash! WCU to roll out new student e-mail system this summer
PAWS (Pretty Advanced Web Server)
PAWS was developed as a supplemental web server for student
and faculty use (beyond what was originally provided with student
e-mail accounts, which also provided web space). As it was
designed to be used on an as-needed basis, it requires that
persons wishing to have a PAWS web account make a request for
one. Students must have a faculty sponsor to obtain an account.
More
details on obtaining an account can be found here. |
