Computer tune-ups, spyware update
During the recent faculty and staff computer tune-up offered by the IT division, 114 computers were serviced over a period of 8 days. IT staff plus three temporary technicians found and removed around 39,000 spyware bots and 50 viruses. They also updated the operating system and antivirus software on several computers.
As a next step, the IT division will purchase a campus license for a spyware detection and removal tool. There has been a steady increase in problems caused by spyware and providing this new utility will help keep university computers "clean" and functioning. Expect more information about this once IT staff complete product evaluations and a product is selected.
In addition to this targeted tune-up service, IT staff also resolved 1,546 cases submitted to the Help Desk over a 35-day period ending November 10. |
