Banner Update
Now that funding obstacles have been removed, Western's administrative offices are in the midst of an aggressive schedule to implement the Banner system. Once Banner is fully implemented, students, faculty, and staff will benefit from the improvement to administrative and student record processes offered by the software system.
The Banner project is a major undertaking of the infrastructure used for maintaining data and of reviewing how our university administrative offices conduct their business. The goal is to redefine processes rather than modify code. Banner is an Oracle relational database Web-based product that uses rule-based, client-defined logic that will provide more flexibility than the current SCT Plus products.
A brief synopsis of where the different administrative offices are in the implementation process is given below:
- The advancement office and IT applications have spent many
hours in training, setting up technical environments, correcting
and migrating data, and building reports to prepare for the
"go live" after the first of the year. Implementing
the university firewall before the advancement ?go live? will
assure that all data is properly protected.
- The Division of Administration and Finance has completed
most of their training and are busy defining a chart of accounts
and reviewing processes with an anticipated "go live"
date of July, 2005, pending all process reviews.
- The student and financial aid modules personnel have just
begun their training schedule with expected "go live"
dates for admissions in August, 2005; financial aid in February,
2006; and student, residential living, and accounts receivable
in March, 2006.
- The only module within the Banner system that has not begun
training is the human resources module which is scheduled
for "go live" in January, 2007.
