PIN change for Western students, faculty now in effect

Updated: March 6, 2006

On Wednesday, March 1, all Western's student and faculty PINs for MyCat and the WIN system were changed from their current four- or five-digit number to a six-digit PIN. Staff PINs were not affected at this time.

The PIN change for My Cat access is now in place. Please log in to My Cat with your new six-digit PIN. You may be required to create or re-enter a security question. PIN changes through Self Service will be disabled until further notice in order for the PINs in the PLUS and Banner systems to remain synchronized.

This PIN change is part of Western's implementation of the new Banner Student Information System (SIS) as it moves forward on schedule. The next step in the implementation process will increase security levels and heighten protection of personal information. Changing student and faculty PINs from four to six digits will serve to create a higher probability that the PIN numbers cannot be detected and used inappropriately.

What's my new PIN?

IT will automatically append either one or two zeros to your existing PIN to make it a six-digit number. For example, if your current PIN/Password is “1234”, your new password will become “123400”; if your current PIN/Password is “12345”, your new password will become “123450”.

If your PIN/Password already is six digits in length, it will remain the same. If your current PIN/Password contains letters, zeros will be added as above. For example, “ABCD” will become “ABCD00”.

When you log in March 1, please use your new six-digit PIN.

Where do I go for help?
