Thanks to a Microsoft Campus Agreement, Western Carolina University students can now get a license to use MS Office Professional (Mac or Windows) and update their MS Windows operating system.
The software can be accessed in one of two ways:
- By downloading Microsoft Office 2003 Professional for Windows and Microsoft Office 2004 for Macintosh from the IT Web site at http://www.wcu.edu/it/downloads.html free of charge, or
- By purchasing a program CD at the TAC located at the entrance to the student computer lab in Hunter library. The CDs will be available Aug. 23; the cost is $10 and is payable ONLY with Cash. (For the Windows Upgrade, purchasing the CD is the only option; it can't be downloaded.)
Regardless of whether the software will be downloaded or purchased, each student must first visit the IT downloads Web page at http://www.wcu.edu/it/downloads.html to log-in and authenticate. A student acceptance form will then be displayed and the agreement must be accepted before the software can be downloaded or purchased.
As long as a student is enrolled at WCU (and the university continues to enroll students under the contract) he or she has the right to use the Microsoft programs. When no longer a student, they lose that right EXCEPT for those who graduate. Graduating students are entitled to a perpetual license to the software that they can take with them.
The Microsoft Campus Agreement also gives faculty and staff work-at-home rights to the software. Information will be forthcoming about faculty and staff access to the software.
